Photography Styles

There are different styles of photography offered by todays photographers, so make sure you are booking the right kind for your day.

Traditional

This style puts the emphasis on posed portraits concentrating on the bride and groom, bridal party, family groups and key moments throughout your day such as cutting the cake and signing the register.

This is good for making sure everyone is included on a photograph at some time. You will also be sure of having some beautiful portrait shots for your wall.

It is not always good for tight schedules, you may have to allow more time if you are wanting lots of different line-ups and ensure you have briefed your ushers beforehand to get them to help collect people together - they are more likely to know different sides of your family than your photographer.

Reportage

This style allows the photographer to capture all the moments throughout the day with no or very little intervention or direction. It is essentially fly on the wall coverage.

It is good for beautiful candid shots which capture the essence of the day. It is also good if you feel shy about posing.

It is not a good style if you want to be sure of including everyone in a photograph.

Contemporary

This is a mixture of traditional and reportage photography with a modern style. You will get some posed shots which are interspersed with natural moments as the day unfolds.

Good for getting the best of both worlds.

Not so good for getting the correct balance of styles - make sure you choose a photographer who can do both styles well as not all reportage photographers enjoy posed shots and vise versa.
